Bellator has boasted about the 2011 title fight that saw Michael Chandler (10-0) defeat Eddie Alvarez (24-3) to become the promotion’s lightweight champion. With Alvarez’s future being tossed around between the UFC and Bellator, Chandler hopes the two can meet once again.
“I think pretty much every MMA fan out there wants Chandler-Alvarez 2, so give the fans what they want,” said Chandler to MMA Junkie Radio. “If he stays in Bellator, let’s fight. Let’s do it two times, three times, four times, who cares.”
Before the possibility of a rematch, two things must happen. Chandler must get past Rick Hawn (14-1) at Bellator 85 and Alvarez needs to be resigned by Bellator.
Bellator recently matched the UFC’s offer for free agent Alvarez, so what’s next for him is not known. Chandler and Hawn meet January 17 at Bellator’s debut on Spike TV.
