Erick Silva (14-3) was struck with an injury that forced him out of his upcoming bout with Jay Hieron (23-6) at UFC 156. The good news is that Silva should be back inside the Octagon around March.
“Joe [Silva] told me that I could come back at an event in March,” said Silva through an interpreter on MMA Junkie.
After an elbow injury and an infected leg, Silva made the decision to withdraw from the fight. He was told by doctors to train lightly for a few weeks and to keep taking antibiotics as he heals.
“It was a high-level fight and I cannot enter it while training at only 50 percent,” said Silva.
Tyron Woodley (10-1) has been announced as a replacement and meets Hieron at UFC 156.
If Silva was to return in March, that would lineup with UFC 158. That event takes place March 16 and features a main event with Georges St-Pierre (23-2) vs. Nick Diaz (26-8-1 NC) for the welterweight championship. Silva, who is a welterweight, has not been linked to any future fights.
