Renato Sobral (37-9) has decided to not be an assistant coach for Fabricio Werdum (16-5) on the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, as he looks to keep his focus on active competition for the time being. Sobral served as an assistant coach on the first season of the Brazilian edition last year.
“I can’t train and teach and coach at the same time over there,” said Sobral to MMA Junkie Radio. “I thought last time I could train and teach. But if you go down there as a coach, you have to only coach.”
Sobral meets Mikhail Zayats (19-6) in the opening round for Season 8 of Bellator’s light heavyweight tournament.
The tournament begins at Bellator 85 from the Bren Events Center in Irvine, CA on January 17. It will mark Bellator’s debut on Spike TV.
