After serving a yearlong suspension for testing positive with oxycontin in his system, Chris Leben’s (22-8) return will make or break him financially.
“I haven’t had a payday in a year,” said Leben to MMA Fighting. “I’m broke. Financially, I can become stable a little bit, so this is a very big transition. I really want to do well. I’d like to get that KO bonus.”
Leben’s last UFC appearance was in November 2011 when his corner stopped a fight with Mark Muñoz (12-3) due to vision problems in the second round. His return fight will be against Derek Brunson (9-2) at UFC 155.
“I’m shooting for it, but I need to get a victory, get the money in the bank and make the most of my career for the next few years,” said Leben.
Leben vs. Brunson will be the opening fight on the main card. The PPV airs this Saturday, December 29, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
