One of the top middleweight contenders Mark Muñoz (12-3) played with the idea of moving up to light heavyweight because he didn’t want to challenge current champion and friend Anderson Silva (33-4). Muñoz, who debuted for the UFC as a light heavyweight, has since found his place at 185 pounds.
“Since I went down to middleweight I feel at home and made it among the world’s best in this division,” said Muñoz to TATAME. “To move up to the light heavyweight category today, I would have to change many things. It’s the kind of thing I do not want to worry now.”
Muñoz was considered by many the next to challenge for the middleweight title until he was defeated by Chris Weidman (9-0) at UFC on Fuel TV this past July. After the fight, Muñoz said he went in with a foot injury and would not make the same mistake again.
It’s not known against whom or when Muñoz will return.
