Daniel Cormier Signs With Cage Fighter Athletic Brand

Daniel Cormier, who won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix earlier this year, has signed a multi-fight deal with the athletic brand Cage Fighter. Cormier will meet Dion Staring at Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine on January 12.

“I am so excited to be coming home to the brand that was the first to support my efforts in this sport,” said Cormier, in a press release announcing the signing. “Lutte’s management team believed in me from day one and was willing to invest in my development and allow me to have a singular focus on making the transition from international wrestling to competitive mixed martial arts.”

Following his Olympic wrestling career, Cormier worked with Lutte Licensing as he made his move to MMA. The company currently sponsors Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs.

“Lutte has a unique understanding of the demands and needs of athletes in our sport and is developing a brand that supports and promotes the community that I came from and love, wrestling,” Cormier said. “They truly know what it means to embrace the grind.”

Cormier is expected to shift to the UFC following his fight in January with Staring. He has hinted that a move to light heavyweight could be in his future should teammate Cain Velasquez capture the UFC heavyweight title later this month.
