“UFC On FX: Sotiropoulos Vs. Pearson” Results

The first fight on tonight’s card is a light heavyweight showdown that features Nick Penner (11-2) vs. Cody Donovan (7-2).

Round 1: The two touch gloves as the round starts. Donovan begins the fight against the cage. The two break. Penner with a right hook that takes Donovan to the mat. Donovan is able to apply a triangle choke from the ground, but Penner gets out and the two are back on their feet. Penner with a big uppercut and Donovan is on the mat again. The two scramble back to their feet. The referee pauses the fight after Penner is hit with an accidental kick to the groin. The fight resumes and Donovan hits a short left hook which puts Penner on the ground. Donovan punches away as the referee steps in.

Mike Wilkinson (8-0) vs. Brendan Loughnane (5-1)

The two are feeling each other early in the round. Loughnane with some kicks to Wilkinson’s legs. Loughnane takes the fight to the ground. Loughnane with shots to the head and body as Wilkinson responds with some of his own. Wilkinson stands up though. Loughnane dictates this fight against the cage. Loughnane with shots to the head as the round ends.

Round 2: Wilkinson with a shot to Loughnane’s head. Wilkinson looks for the takedown but doesn’t get it. Wilkinson is bleeding from his head. Big body shot by Wilkinson and both men are bleeding. Loughnane with a counter and looks for the submission with a kimura. He doesn’t get it and the two exchange shots as the round ends.

Round 3: Wilkinson goes for the takedown and Loughnane stops him. Wilkinson puts this one against the cage. Loughnane with a punch that floors Wilkinson. The two scramble on the mat. Wilkinson with another knee to the head. Both swing away as the round concludes.

Mike Wilkinson defeated Brendan Loughnane via unanimous decision

Ben Alloway (13-3) vs. Manuel Rodriguez (9-4)

Round 1: Rodriguez goes for the takedown early against the cage and gets the fight to the ground. Alloway looks for a triangle choke, but doesn’t get it. Rodriguez keeping the fight against the cage and Rodriguez stands up trying to escape. Rodriguez brings it back to the ground. Rodriguez has the back and looks for the choke. Alloway is back to his feet, but Rodriguez takes this one back to the ground. The two separate and trade punches. Rodriguez takes a groin shot and the referee stops the fight thinking that Rodriguez is injured. Rodriguez is arguing with the referee who restarts the fight a few minutes later. Alloway with a front kick to Rodriguez’s jaw and this one is now over.

Mike Pierce (15-5) vs. Seth Baczynski (18-8)

Round 1: Pierce with a double leg takedown. Baczynski uses the cage to get back to his feet. Pierce looks for another takedown. The two are back in the middle of the Octagon halfway through the fight. Pierce misses a left. He grabs a leg and puts Baczynski back on his back. Pierce holding onto a leg as he keeps this one against the cage. Baczynski with elbows to the head as he tries to escape, but cannot as the round ends.

Round 2: Pierce brings this one to the ground again. Baczynski up, but can’t get off the cage. Pierce holding own but the two release and go back in the center of the Octagon. Baczynski goes for a flying knee. Baczynski looks for guillotine against the cage, but can’t get it. Baczynski puts Pierce against the cage. Pierce with several short uppercuts in the clinch. Baczynski with some knees. Baczynski slips and Pierce goes on top with some shots. End of the round.

Round 3: Baczynski with another flying knee. Pierce is cut as Baczynski continues with knees. Pierce looks tired. Baczynski with a knee to the body as Pierce tries to bring this one against the cage again. Pierce takes the top at the center of the Octagon. Baczynski with some hammer fist shots from his back. The two stand with less than a minute to go. Pierce gets the takedown against the cage. Baczynski looks for a triangle, but doesn’t get it as Pierce swings away as the round ends.

Igor Pokrajac (25-9) vs. Joey Beltran (14-8)

Round 1: They touch gloves and start swinging. Beltran with some small shots to the body against the cage and hits an uppercut. Some dirty boxing by Beltran to the chest. Beltran with some knees to the body. Beltran looking for a double under hook. Big shots to the body and head by Beltran. Beltran with a huge uppercut. Pokrajac with a shot that gives him the advantage now. The two trade blows to ends the round. Beltran stares Pokrajac down as they go their corner.

Round 2: Pokrajac starts the round off in control against the cage. Beltran turns the fight around and now Pokrajac is standing against the cage. Beltran with some stomps to the foot of Pokrajac. The fight is paused after a punch to Pokrajac’s groin. The two touch gloves as the fight resumes. Beltron with big shots against the cage. The two wrestler for control as the round ends.

Round 3: They are in the clinch as Beltran puts them against the cage. Pokrajac switches positions, but it doesn’t last as Beltran puts it back against the cage. The two go to the center of the Octagon and each hit big shots to the head. Pokrajac with several punches to the head. Pokrajac pushes Beltran against the cage. Pokrajac with a kick to the head, but doesn’t get all of it. Beltran puts Pokrajac against the cage. Pokrajac looks to escape, but isn’t able to. Headlock by Beltran and he hits some knees. 15 seconds left and Pokrajac starts swinging as the round ends.

Joey Beltran defeated Igor Pokrajac via unanimous decision

The final preliminary fight will see Chad Mendes (12-1) vs. Yaotzin Meza (19-7).

Round 1: Mendes playing offense in the early stages of this one. Right leg kick by Mendes. Big right by Mendes and Meza goes down to the ground. Mendes jumps on top and lands a few shots before the referee stops this one.

Middleweights Hector Lombard (31-3-1-1 NC) Vs. Rousimar Palhares (14-4) will be the first fight on the main card.

Round 1: The two share a pair of kicks to start the round. Big right by Lombard that misses. Palhares answers with a leg kick. Palhares is on the ground, but he is quickly up. Lombard with several right hands as the two circle the cage. Lombard with a big left hand Palhares is down. Lombard jumps on top starts swinging with fist. The two stand and Palhares is bleeding from the side of the head. Lombard with another big left hand and Palhares is down again. Lombard starts punching away and this one is over.

The two Englishmen meet as Colin Fletcher (8-1) and Norman Parke (16-2) see which lightweight will be crowned the winner of The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes.

Round 1: They slap hands to start the fight. Parke ties up Fletcher’s arms and puts him against the cage. He brings him down to the mat in half guard. Fletcher looking for the kimura, but can’t secure it. Parke with several elbows while on top. Fletcher takes the top in the final moments.

Round 2: Fletcher with kicks to start the round. Fletcher has the clinch and Parke pushes him against the cage to take him down. Side mount for Fletcher and Parke has him in a guillotine, but can’t hold it. Parke now mounts Fletcher and has his back. He locks his legs and goes for a choke. Fletcher is out and they stand. Big right hand by Parke. The two exchange kicks. Parke with a combination. Fletcher goes for a spinning leg kick. Parke takes Fletcher down to end the round.

Round 3: Kicks by Parke and punches by Fletcher in the first minute of the round. Fletcher’s spinning back fist misses and he falls to the ground. He’s up and they exchange offense. Both men are throwing punches halfway through the final round. Fletcher is cut under his left eye. The two exchange words. The spinning elbow connects this time for Fletcher. Parke takes this one to the ground. Fletcher is up and Parke has his back as the round concludes. The two hug.

Norman Parke defeated Colin Fletcher via unanimous decision

Australia’s Robert Whittaker (9-2) and England’s Brad Scott (8-1) are up next in the finals of the welterweight side of The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes.

Round 1: The two are feeling each other out to start the fight. Scott hooks the arms and pushes him against the cage. Knees by Whittaker as he looks to escape. The two release and go to the center of the Octagon. Whittaker almost connects with a kick to the head. Scott with the clinch against the cage and is unsuccessful in the takedown. Whittaker takes Scott down and unleashes several punches. Scott is able to rebound and stands. Whittaker continues to throw punches.

Round 2: Scott with a kick to the stomach. Whittaker throws some punches to the head. Whittaker kicks Scott in the groin with an inside leg kick. Whittaker apologies and Scott accepts it as the fight resumes. Scott trips Whittaker and looks to be going for a rear naked choke. He can’t get it and starts throwing punches. Scott locks his legs around Whittaker’s waist, but the two stand. They exchange punches and Scott presses him against the cage as the round ends.

Round 3: Scott blitzes with some punches. He does it again and connects with a head kick. Uppercut by Whittaker. The two continue to throw punches and kicks. Big left hand by Whittaker. Whittaker pushing the offense with a minute left. Blood is running down Scott’s face and Whittaker goes forward with punches and an uppercut. Both men throw punches as the round concludes and they hug.

Robert Whittaker defeated Brad Scott via unanimous decision

It’s now main event time with the opposing coaches from The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes meeting. George Sotiropoulos (14-4) and Ross Pearson (13-6) conclude tonight’s show.

Round 1: Neither men touch gloves before the fight starts. The two start by exchanging some punches. A right by Pearson wobbles Sotiropoulos who barely stays on his feet. Pearson puts him against the cage, but can’t finish him. At the center of Octagon Pearson with another shot that takes Sotiropoulos down. Pearson is up and connects with a punch that hurts Sotiropoulos. Sotiropoulos recovers. Pearson gets the back in the final minute and Sotiropoulos throws him to the ground.

Round 2: The two are trading punches with nobody getting the advantage. Outside leg kick by Pearson and Sotiropoulos is down again. He continues to pumble him throughout the round and takes him down later with some punches, but it isn’t enough to finish this one.

Round 3: Pearson is able to knock Sotiropoulos down early with a big left, followed by a right. He takes Sotiropoulos down and starts swinging away and the referee quickly steps in as this one is over.
