Rashad Evans (17-2-1) thinks the first meeting between Cain Velasquez (10-1) and Junior dos Santos (15-1) showed that the former champion wasn’t fully prepared for the challenge at hand.
“I think in the first fight Cain was quite insecure, trying to focus on striking and forgot he had other weapons and abilities that all work very well together,” said Rashad to TATAME.
Santos knocked Velasquez to the ground with a right hand just a minute into their fight before finishing him on the ground. In the process, Santos became the heavyweight champion and the only person to defeat Velasquez.
Later this month, the two will meet in a rematch at UFC 155. The show takes place December 29 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. They will headline the card.
Evans returns in February against Antônio Rogério Nogueira (20-5) at UFC 156 on February 2. Evans will be coming off a loss against light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (17-1) over the spring.
