While Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos (10-1-1) said her doctor informed her it was too dangerous to make the 10 pound drop to bantamweight, the former Strikeforce champion seems to be ignoring those warnings.
“Dana [White] already said he will just have the bantamweight division for now,” said Santos to Sherdog. “I understand there are not that many fighters in my division. So I’ll make the effort to cut down. Who does not want to fight in the UFC?”
Santos has been in a war of words for months with the first ever UFC female bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey (6-0). The UFC made her the official champion recently.
“It’s better for me to fight at bantamweight because the division has more fighters,” said Santos. “I’m looking for the right diet, the best way to lose that weight. I’ll make that fight with Ronda happen. I’ll give my best.”
Santos remains suspended until the beginning of next year for testing positive for steroids.
Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche (7-2) will headline UFC 157 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA. The February 23 fight will be the first time the UFC host a female bout.
