Sara McMann Denies Ronda Rousey Rumor

Sara McMann’s (6-0) manger, Monte Cox, has gone on the record to state that his client was never approached about fighting Ronda Rousey (6-0) in the first ever female fight for the UFC.

“Our contract says she is still with Strikeforce,” wrote Cox to MMA Junkie. “We never got that phone call. So, I don’t know where this is all coming from.”

McMann signed with Strikeforce in the fall and was going to compete on the November card before it was cancelled. She was set to compete against Liz Carmouche (7-2), who will now challenge Rousey for the title at UFC 157 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA on February 23.

Cox was still open to the idea of McMann vs. Rousey in the future.

“The McMann-Rousey fight has the potential to be the biggest fight in women’s history,” said Cox. “Two American Olympic medalists – one from judo, the other from wrestling, both undefeated in both amateur and professional competition, neither having ever broken the rules.”

Strikeforce will hold what is believed to be their final show in January and McMann has not been announced to appear.
