Rory MacDonald Upset He Didn’t Finish BJ Penn, Discusses Carlos Condit

Rory MacDonald likely finished the career of former UFC champion BJ Penn Saturday night, picking “The Prodigy” apart at UFC on Fox: Henderson vs. Diaz. MacDonald, however, wasn’t completely satisfied with his performance.

“I was happy with a lot of it. I’m pissed I didn’t finish him, though,” MacDonald said, on the Fuel TV post-fight show. “I aim to finish and I didn’t, so the job’s not done for me. It’s bittersweet, but I’m happy.”

MacDonald (14-1) had earned two consecutive finishes prior to facing Penn, having stopped Mike Pyle and Che Mills. The Canadian knew Penn would be a difficult man to stop, saying, “He’s a juggernaut and I knew it would take everything I had to put him down, so it was what I expected pretty much.”

“Aries” made a call for a match with Carlos Condit inside the Octagon following the contest. Condit is the only fighter to hold a victory over MacDonald.

“I was humiliated and embarrassed after that fight and I think about that fight all the time,” MacDonald said. “It haunts me. I really need to get past that chapter in my life.”
