Jon Jones Has Something To Prove Against Alexander Gustafsson

Alexander Gustafsson’s (14-1) win over Maurício “Shogun” Rua (21-6) was what light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (17-1) wanted. Dana White announced the winner would be the No. 1 contender to Jones’ title earlier in the week.

“I would prefer to fight Alexander Gustafsson just because I haven’t fought him yet,” said Jones to MMA Heat. “There are a lot of critics that say I do so well because I have size advantages over my opponents and I don’t think that’s fair.”

If they meet, Gustafsson comes in an inch taller at 6’5” though Jones would have a 7.9 inch reach advantage.

Before the two can fight, Jones still must go through Chael Sonnen (27-12-1) in April. The two are currently filming the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, coaching opposite one another.

“I think fighting Gustafsson will get that whole Jon Jones is bigger than everybody thing going,” said Jones.

Jones defeated Rua in 2011 to win the title.
