Jorge Masvidal (23-7) has been one of the fighters to openly speak about the recent events surrounding Strikeforce folding their operations and he is none too pleased with how it has been handled. Masvidal wishes the company was more vocal with him so he could move forward with his career.
The previous two Strikeforce shows, to be held in September and November, were cancelled due to injuries. A mega show is set for January with several titles to be decided. The MMA side of the company is then expected to cease operations.
“That’s the only thing that’s not cool,” said Masvidal to MMA Weekly Radio. “I wish they’d tell us, hey listen, this show got cancelled, you’re going to be on the January card, you’re going to be on the April card, something like that. That’s the only thing that gets me going.”
In 2007 Masvidal debuted for Strikeforce and after a three year absence he returned to the company in 2011. His overall Strikeforce record is 5-1 and he last competed this past July earning a split decision victory.
Masvidal was set for the November card before it was cancelled and said he hasn’t been compensated from the show and doesn’t expect to be.
“I heard that we would be compensated,” said Masvidal. “I don’t know what figures were. I haven’t been yet. I’m not saying we’re not because the fight would have just happened last weekend, so maybe they’re going to take care of us now, but I don’t know anything about it.”
