Details Emerge On DREAM-GLORY Event

Once thought dead, DREAM has been revived temporarily by kickboxing’s GLORY as the two prepare to host a super show by the years end. The call was made in September with new information recently announced.

“We looked at the pros and cons, and it was clear that a combined show is the way to go,” said Pierre Andurand, GLORY chairman. “We are extremely proud and excited to deliver this mega-show to the Japanese fans and to the world at large.”

The GLORY side of the event will host a one night 16 man kickboxing tournament event with the winner receiving $400,000. Expected names include: Semmy Schilt, Daniel Ghita, Remy Bonjasky, Gokhan Saki, Peter Aerts and Errol Zimmerman.

DREAM previously announced that featherweight champion Hiroyuki Takaya (17-9-1), veteran Tatsuya Kawajiri (31-7-2) and former title challenger Satoru Kitaoka (30-11-9) will compete in MMA action.

The combined show will be titled “DREAM 18 and GLORY 4 Tokyo – New Year’s Eve Special”
and airs at 4 p.m. from the Saitama Super Arena in Japan.

“As a company, we want to create the most spectacular martial arts show Japan has ever seen,” said Andurand. “After taking over DREAM 18, it just made natural sense to look at the opportunity to revive the traditional New Year’s Eve date and create a mega-show.”

The last DREAM show was the 2011 New Year’s Eve show. It is unclear what becomes of DREAM following the upcoming 2012 New Year’s Eve show.

Additional details for the December 31 card are expected soon.
