Thiago Silva Submits Stanislav Nedkov, Earns First Win Since 2009

Thiago Silva knew he was down on the scorecards after two rounds of action Saturday vs. Stanislav Nedkov. The veteran, however, didn’t panic, sticking with the plan and submitting Nedkov in the third round in the co-main event of UFC on Fuel TV: Franklin vs. Le.

Silva (15-3) had not won since 2009, as a previous victory over Brandon Vera was changed to a no-contest. He knocked out Keith Jardine in ’09.

“I just stayed with the leg kicks and used them to set things up,” Silva said. “I just needed the right opportunity to take him down.”

Silva was battered a few times, but mostly, Nedkov just held him against the fence. The loss was the first of Nedkov’s career, dropping him to 12-1.
