While Eddie Alvarez (24-3) remains in the headlines after his Bellator contract recently expired, one person isn’t too concerned what happens next. Michael Chandler (10-0), the current lightweight champion, is rather familiar with Alvarez as he handed him his only Bellator loss and took the title at the same time.
“I’m not necessarily interested in a rematch with Eddie Alvarez,” said Chandler on MMA Junkie Radio. “I think I proved what I needed to prove.”
The Alvarez-Chandler fight was recently nominated by the 2012 World MMA Awards for Fight of the Year.
Bjorn Rebney has stated that he thinks everyone will know shortly if Alvarez will resign with Bellator or fight for another company. Dana White has been vocal about bringing the former champion to the UFC, stating the company had been watching him for some time.
“That’s the hot topic right now,” said Chandler. “Me, I’d just stay in the gym, chill out, work my butt off and come out swinging in January.”
