Miguel Torres Looking To Reset His Career In WSOF Debut

Miguel Torres (40-5) has had a bumpy road this year. Despite only fighting once in 2012, Torres was released twice by the UFC. The first occurred after he retweeted a rape comment. He was rehired weeks later only to lose his following fight. He was released again. Now, he looks for a fresh start with World Series of Fighting (WSOF).

“Going back to November, it was a big blow,” said Torres to MMA Weekly. “I went through a lot to get back into the UFC, got back in and lost the fight. I didn’t follow the game plan and went out there and got caught with a punch and I got [released] again.”

The knockout occurred in the first round of UFC 145. The loss made the former WEC bantamweight champion 2-2 while under the UFC’s name.

Torres recently signed a contract for WSOF, which is a new MMA company that will make their official debut next month. He will fight on the main card when he takes on Marlon Moraes (8-4), who is coming off back-to-back wins at XFC.

WSOF 1 takes place November 3 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The main card will air on NBC Sports Network as a onetime event. WEC used to air on the same channel.

“It’s an exciting feeling to start in a new league and kind of have a homecoming fighting on the NBC Sports Network,” said Torres.

As for Torres’ future after the fight, he just wants to settle down.

“The biggest thing for me to get back on track is to get stable.”
