Brian Rogers (9-3) made a difficult decision recently by deciding to leave his job as a special education teacher to focus on his fighting career. At Bellator 78 he will see if the decision was the right call as he enters for the first time as a fulltime fighter.
“It was a tough and risky decision,” said Rogers to MMA Junkie. “My job performance [now] is very cut and dried as far as how I make my money. I’m putting it all on the line, so to speak.”
Rogers will be making his third appearance for Bellator. He is 2-1 for them, losing in the Season 5 semifinals of the middleweight tournament. He is currently in the semifinals of the Season 6 tournament. Rogers will face Dominique Steele (6-2) who makes his Bellator debut and his coming off a loss after being on a six fight win streak.
Making sure his family was finically secure was a major reason for Rogers not making the decision earlier.
“It was always the dream and the goal to be a full-time fighter, but the reality of the situation is you don’t want to just get by,” said Rogers. “You’ve got to have the financial means to support yourself and a wife or family. So I was thinking about it for a long time.”
Bellator 78 takes place later today, October 26. The main card airs on MTV2 starting at 8pm Eastern Time. The preliminary card airs on Spike.com. Check back at FightLine.com tonight for results.
