The last time we saw Nick Diaz inside the Octagon, he was on the losing end of a decision to Carlos Condit and abruptly announced his retirement. Now, while currently on suspension for a failed drug test, his name continues to pop up.
UFC president Dana White was asked about the status of Diaz upon his likely return next February during a conference call earlier this week.
“When Diaz gets off suspension, he’ll probably fight one of the top guys (at welterweight),” White said. “Then we’ll see what happens.”
Diaz (26-8) sports a 7-5 record inside the UFC. He was expected to meet UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre before GSP pulled out with an injury. Instead, Diaz and Condit were placed in an interim title match, which Condit took.
Condit and GSP will square off next month to unify the titles, the first match for St-Pierre since early in 2011. They meet at UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit in Montreal.
