Glover Teixeira felt like a fight with Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, a former UFC light heavyweight champion, would make for a perfect second fight inside the Octagon. Unfortunately, Jackson pulled out of the planned fight after suffering an injury.
Instead, Teixeira took on Fabio Maldonado Saturday night at UFC 153: Silva vs. Bonnar. The Brazilian scored a TKO victory after the cage-side doctor ruled Maldonado could no longer continue.
So, who would make for an ideal third Octagon opponent? Well, “Rampage” of course.
“I don’t care (who I fight next),” Teixeira said. “I want to fight who wants to fight. If (Jackson’s) not motivated to fight, I don’t want to fight him. I want to fight someone who wants to fight. ‘Rampage’ has too much money already. I don’t disrespect him. He was my idol, he was awesome; I respect him.”
Teixeira hit Maldonado with everything, and even locked in a tight arm triangle submission – his finishing move of choice. He added that, “I couldn’t believe he was still fighting,” after the punishment handed to him by Teixeira.
