José Aldo Says Frankie Edgar Will Play Second Fiddle To Him

José Aldo (21-1) has no problem with Frankie Edgar (14-3-1) joining the ranks of the featherweights, but the division’s current champion says his title isn’t leaving him.

“I’m not going to kick him out,” said Aldo to MMA Fighting. “What I said is he’s not going to be a champion in it. So if he wants to be a champion he has to go back to his [division]. If he wants to come down to my class and he wants to be second, that’s ok because I’m going to continue to be the champion.”

Edgar made the decision to drop down to a featherweight after losing his lightweight championship and the rematch that followed. In Edgar’s featherweight debut, he was supposed to fight Aldo at UFC 153 after an injury to the original challenger caused the main event to be changed. Aldo was later injured and both men were removed from the card.

It is unknown if the two will still fight for the championship at a later date.
