Bjorn Rebney Believes Eddie Alvarez Headed To UFC

Eddie Alvarez, the former Bellator lightweight champion, will make his final signed appearance later this month for Bellator. After he faces Patricky Pitbull in the main event of Bellator 76, Alvarez will become a free agent.

Despite Bellator holding rights to match any offer Alvarez receives, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney informed that he feels as though Alvarez is headed for the UFC.

“I know that (the UFC) have had a lot of interest in Eddie for a long time,” Rebney said. “I think win or lose, Ed’s probably going to make that decision. God bless him, he’s been awesome for us, and win lose or draw, he’ll do incredibly well if he ends up going to the UFC.”

The UFC’s lightweight division is as deep as ever, with Benson Henderson currently holding the title. Other highly-rated fighters at 155 pounds include Nate Diaz, Gray Maynard, Anthony Pettis and Donald Cerrone.

While Rebney would love to keep Alvarez, he believes that Bellator’s division can hold up going forward behind champion Michael Chandler and other top prospects.
