Clay Guida (29-13) looks back at his fight against Gray Maynard (11-1-1-1 NC) and still believes he won. Maynard defeated Guida via split decision at UFC on FX 5 earlier this year. Guida was criticized by many for his lack of performance.
“Logical fans that actually go back and pick that fight apart, and didn’t just judge it by the first time seeing it [agree with me],” said Guida on The MMA Hour. “Don’t get me wrong, I definitely don’t think it was the most exciting fight that I’ve put on, or that the UFC has had as a main event in a while.”
Guida’s reason for deserving the win was that his game plan was better executed than Maynard.
“I was much faster than him,” said Guida. “It felt like I was two or three steps ahead of Gray the whole time. I outwrestled him; I stopped all of his takedowns. I defended submissions, got a little bit of ground and pound, broke his nose, cut his face.”
Since Guida lost the fight, making it his second in a row for the UFC, he has dropped down to featherweight. His next fight isn’t known.
