Daniel Cormier has talked plenty about a potential move to 205 pounds. If Cormier, a former Olympic wrestler, were to drop down from heavyweight, could he see himself matched up with current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones?
UFC president Dana White says yes, as he told reporters during his usual media scrum following UFC on Fuel TV: Struve vs. Miocic. Cormier is set to fight one final time for Strikeforce in November – against an opponent yet to be determined – before entering the Octagon.
“That’d be interesting,” said White, of a Cormier-Jones match. “I like it.”
Jones recently defended his title for a fourth time by submitting Vitor Belfort. He did suffer some damage to his right arm in the win, and his return to action remains unknown.
Cormier entered the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix as a replacement and went on to defeat Josh Barnett for the crown. After Zuffa purchased Strikeforce, they consolidated the heavyweight division with the UFC, bringing several fighters to the promotion already.
