Michael Bisping showed that British fighters can use wrestling, taking Brian Stann down multiple times in earning a decision victory at UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort Saturday night.
Bisping landed 97 strikes to 86 by Stann, but dominated in head-strikes (80-46) and takedowns. “The Count” credited the pace he set for the win.
“I always try to push the pace,” Bisping said. “I was never a particularly gifted athlete, but I am hungry and wait it.”
Bisping, who has won five of his last six, called for a shot at UFC middleweight champion, saying, “my desire to be the world champion is not going away.”
Anderson Silva, the UFC middleweight champion, will return to action next month at 205 pounds. The UFC has not declared a No. 1 contender to Silva, who is also rumored to be in discussion for a super-fight with Georges St-Pierre.
