Vitor Belfort is embracing the role of ultimate challenger. “The Phenom” will face Jon Jones this Saturday night for the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort.
As a former champion in multiple divisions, Belfort knows what it takes to reach the top level. However, he was unsuccessful during his last title fight, falling to Anderson Silva at middleweight.
“I am so ready in my mind,” said Belfort, during open workouts Wednesday. “I am so ready to be the champion again. My brain, my body, they are so ready. That’s how I live my life – with belief. I am a winner. I am ready to win. As you get older, you learn about yourself. I have the same abilities as I had when I was younger, but now I have more sense to myself.”
Belfort stepped in to face Jones when others wouldn’t, leaving a planned middleweight encounter with Alan Belcher to test himself against Jones. While the odds are not in his favor, Belfort does believe he has what it takes to dethrone “Bones.”
“Against Jon Jones, people ask, ‘How can you beat this guy,'” Belfort said, “and I say, ‘I will show you how on Saturday.'”
