Mark Munoz Says Rumors Of Long-Layoff Are “Inaccurate”

Mark Munoz, who returned earlier this year from an elbow injury, denied that he will miss several months of training due to a foot injury. Munoz was defeated by Chris Weidman in his return bout.

It had been previously reported that Munoz (12-3) could be on the sidelines for a while with a foot injury. There was also rumors of the injury forcing him into an early retirement.

“That’s inaccurate, it’s inaccurate,” said Munoz, during a recent appearance on Radio. “I was just talking to somebody inside my gym as he came in and was just hanging out, and unfortunately, he posted something on the Internet, and it just caught on like wildfire.”

Munoz added that, “I’m not out a year. I’m actually trying to get back to training and everything soon.” Munoz said he has been in contact with the UFC regarding a future match, and hopes to resume training in “two, actually, three-or-four weeks – or so.”

Munoz injured the foot in training, suffering a stress fracture. After being forced to miss a fight with Chael Sonnen due to the elbow injury, there were never second thoughts to pulling out of the Weidman bout.

“I didn’t want to be the guy to back out twice,” Munoz said. “I’m not retiring. I’m here to stay. I get down, but I don’t stay down.”
