Former UFC champion Vitor Belfort understands that not many people are giving him much of a chance to dethrone Jon Jones when the two meet at UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort later this month. That’s fine by “The Phenom,” because he knows exactly what he is capable of.
“I have a lot of respect for the guy, but I will be ready to put up a fight and bring the competition to a high level,” said Belfort, in a recent interview with UFC Tonight. “I am coming into a weight class that I am not really fighting in, but I have history.”
Belfort added, “I have history behind it and I have a chance.” The Brazilian was set to face Alan Belcher in a middleweight contest in October, but took the chance to face a legend-in-the-making in Jones, instead.
“How many guys from my generation get this chance?” Belfort asked. “And here I am, 35 years old, 17-year-career, fighting the best fighter of all-time in the history of the UFC.”
