Former interim UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has had a long road back from an arm injury suffered in a loss to Frank Mir last year. Now, after undergoing extensive therapy, “Big Nog” appears ready to return to the Octagon.
“My recovery is 100-percent,” said Nogueira, in an interview with Sherdog.com. “I tried getting better for July, but I got hurt again. I think it was too soon.”
Nogueira was set to face Cheick Kongo at UFC 149: Faber vs. Barao, but had to pull out after his arm was not completely healed. He had his bone broken last December when Mir locked in a submission hold on Nogueira.
“It’s totally recovered and I started to train again in mid-July,” Nogueira said. “I feel my arm is getting stronger, getting faster. I’m training every day and I hope to fight soon. I’m just waiting on confirmation from the UFC.”
