Charlie Brenneman Stands Behind His Tweets Against Jon Jones

Charlie Brenneman (15-4) was one of the first to berate Jon Jones (16-1) for the cancellation of UFC 151, after he sent a tweet out asking if the champion was going to pay his rent. The remark earned him positive and negative attention, but Brenneman has no regrets about it.

“We’re in the media when we’re coming up, and when we don’t have a fight, we’re not in the media,” said Brenneman (15-4) on MMA Junkie Radio. “To me, it’s amusing to be back in the spotlight because it has been a while.”

On the now cancelled card, Brenneman was scheduled to fight Kyle Noke (19-6-1). The fight has been moved to UFC 152.

“People on Twitter still seem to care a lot about it,” said Brenneman. “I’ve kind of quit thinking about it, but I still get bashed on a daily basis.”

While Brenneman spoke about rent in his tweet, it was just an example he used.

“Whether or not I was going to use that money for rent, or use that money for a boat, it doesn’t matter,” said Brenneman. “It’s the point that we were counting on that money. Everyone from the top to the bottom of the card is at a different stage in their life. It’s relative, and to each one of us, it’s important.”
