Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney knows that having its divisional champions fight more often will only help gain more exposure for the promotion. So, starting in 2013, Rebney and Bellator plan to do just that.
“What you’ll have is more weight classes in each 12-week run that we do, and you’ll have greater frequency,” said Rebney, in a recent interview with MMAjunkie.com. “If you look at the champions in the other organization, the UFC, they’re fighting on average two times to defend the belt per year. We’re going to have that same dynamic. We want guys fighting every four, four-and-a-half months per year.”
Bellator will host 25 events this year, and plans are to do that same number next year. They will be moving over to Spike TV starting in January.
