Demetrious Johnson: Testing Everything About Joseph Benavidez In Flyweight Championship Fight

Demetrious Johnson’s (15-2-1) goal against Joseph Benavidez (16-2) is the same as with any of his fights, to finish it. If Johnson finishes Benavidez, he will walk out as the first ever UFC Flyweight Champion.

“He’s a great fighter, he’s a killer,” said Johnson on UFC’s YouTube channel. “He’s very methodical the way he fights. I’m going to test everything about him; his heart, chin [and] cardio.”

After Johnson was unsuccessful in capturing the bantamweight championship in his UFC debut, he entered the tournament to crown the first flyweight champion and made it to the finals. His opponent Benavidez is on a four fight win streak as he enters the finals of the tournament.

The two will fight at UFC 152 on September 22.

“What’s at stake in this fight is making history as the first flyweight champion in the world,” said Johnson. “I’m going out there to fight and see who is number one.”
