Maiquel Gonçalves (31-4-1 NC) will have to wait until 2013 for his championship shot at the Bellator Middleweight Championship. He is set to challenge Alexander Shlemenko (46-7), where the winner will be crowned the new middleweight champion.
The title was vacated in April of this year, when Hector Lombard (31-3-1-1 NC) signed with the UFC. Before signing with the UFC, he was set to fight Shlemenko.
“Alexander Shlemenko is a great fighter,” said Gonçalves on TATAME. “My goal now is to train and set a game plan little by little.”
Gonçalves won the Bellator Season 6 Middleweight Championship Tournament back in May, earning the title shot in the process. He is undefeated under the company’s name, where he is 3-0. Shlemenkois is 7-1 for Bellator.
The date for the fight is unknown.
