Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (8-1), who is currently out with a torn ACL, said he’s about 75-to-80-percent towards a full recovery and looks to return to action in 2013. After he had surgery, a severe staph infection hindered his return to start training.
“The knee rehab is going real good,” said Lawal on MMA Junkie Radio. “I’m back to hitting mits and kicking and everything. So I’m feeling good and I’m looking good.”
Though injured, Lawal is still unable to fight as he is suspended. At his last fight in January 2012, Lawal was suspended for a year after a drug test came back positive for steroids. It was later reduced to nine months in March. He was released from Strikeforce after tweeting unflattering comments about Pat Lundvall, a female member of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Since then Lawal has signed a joint deal with Bellator and TNA Wrestling. He has not debuted for the wrestling company yet.
Lawal’s suspension ends in early September.
