Even Jon Jones’ (16-1) striking coach Mike Winkeljohn has gone on the attack, suggesting that Chael Sonnen (27-12-1) had been preparing for the fight weeks in advance.
“All I can say to everyone is don’t put this on Jon,” said Winkeljohn to MMANationDotCom. “There are others to blame. This UFC 151 problem should have been resolved weeks ago. How long has Chael been attacking Jon via media and why?”
Winkeljohn noted that Sonnen is known to use deception in his fights.
“He’s a guy known for money making schemes and cheating by bending the rules,” said Winkeljohn. “I think Chael played almost everyone like a fiddle. Last week, like a coward, he tried to train and strike Jon when he wasn’t looking. Jon is a warrior and we saw it coming. All I can say to Chael is ‘hey nice try.’”
Winkeljohn wants to see the fight happen, but with more notice. He felt that Sonnen was a much different fighter than Dan Henderson (29-8).
