Alan Belcher found out Friday that he lost his scheduled opponent for UFC 153: Aldo vs. Koch when Vitor Belfort decided to take a bout with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort. However, it turns out that Belcher likely was going to have to pull out of the fight anyway.
“Everyone’s asking if I am mad at (UFC, Jones, Belfort) answer is no,” Belcher wrote. “This is a blessing in disguise. I have a spinal fracture.”
No word of Belcher’s injury had been reported prior to “The Talent” making it public knowledge. The fight was expected to help clear up the UFC’s middleweight division.
Belcher said he will likely be ready to return in November, and has a perfect opponent in mind.
“With much respect I’d like (Chris Weidman) or another top 5 on my return in November,” Belcher posted. “Thx for all the support.”
