After Bellator 73, people will know the name Ryan Martinez (7-1). This is according to Martinez, who considers himself “a well-kept secret” in MMA.
“I’m someone that not everyone knows, but hopefully after this Bellator show, everybody will be able to know me and kind of get a feel for who I am and what I’m going to bring,” said Martinez.
Martinez will take on Mike Wessel (11-4). Both fighters are making their Bellator debuts.
Martinez admitted he hasn’t explored too much about Wessel, but the collegiate wrestler plans to finish the fight.
“I don’t know too much of what he does,” said Martinez. “I feel like scouting my opponent takes me out of my game plan, so I’m just going to get in the cage and move a little bit and see what he has to offer. As soon as I see something, I’m going to take full advantage of it whether it be standing and banging or on the ground choking him out.”
Tonight, August 24, Martinez vs. Wessel takes place and can be seen on MTV2.
“I’m still shocked I’m signed with Bellator,” said Martinez. “I’m just thanking God as much as I can for this opportunity. I’m blessed. That’s the only way to describe it. God is looking out for me.”
