Vitor Belfort Thankful For Opportunity To Face Jon Jones At UFC 152

Unlike Lyoto Machida or Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Vitor Belfort had no trouble saying yes to the UFC. “The Phenom” will now face UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort from Toronto on September 22.

Machida withdrew his name from the proposed title fight on Thursday, and Rua turned down the opportunity, as well. Belfort, who was set to face Alan Belcher in October at middleweight, took the chance to compete for UFC gold again in a second.

“I want to thank both (Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White) for put me in where a lot of guys are acting like divas,” Belfort posted on Twitter. “I think this is a big challenge for any fighter that is alive on the game. I think God to provide me with this Blessing 2 fight the youngest champion we will face each other I have all the respect for Jones thats why u can’t miss this competition.”

Belfort cited his upbringing in the “Carlson Gracie” way of fighting as the reason for accepting the challenge. He added, (Gracie) live inside of me I learn so much thing with him and (Al Stankie).”
