UFC president Dana White announced on Tuesday that the UFC 151: Jones vs. Henderson main event has been called off due to a partially torn knee MCL in his knee. White said that Jones and Lyoto Machida will fight at UFC 152 in Toronto on September 22.
“Dan Henderson has a partial tear in his MCL and couldn’t continue,” White said. “He tried to train, tried to continue to work, but there was nothing we could do to save that fight.”
White said that one fighter offered to take Henderson’s place and that was Chael Sonnen. However, Jones turned down the fight with Sonnen after consulting with his coach, Greg Jackson.
“Chael Sonnen accepted the fight,” White said. “Not only did he take the fight, he said I’d fly to Las Vegas (Wednesday night) and fight him. Jon Jones said I’m not fighting Chael Sonnen with eight days notice. Something like this has never happened in UFC history.”
The entire UFC 151 card has been scrapped, with the September 22 card taking the title of UFC 151.
“For the first time in 11 years, we have to cancel an event,” White said.
