Erik Koch Feels As If He Is The Right Man To Dethrone Jose Aldo

Erik Koch has waited for his chance at UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Now, after having the fight postponed once, Koch is set to face Aldo in October.

The two will comprise the main event of UFC 153: Aldo vs. Koch in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The fight goes down on October 13.

Since a decision loss to Chad Mendes in 2010, Koch (13-1) has won four fights. However, due to injury and the decision by Aldo to pull out of the planned first meeting, he has not fought since last September.

That doesn’t seem to bother Koch, who knows Aldo is one of the best fighters in the world. He believes his training, however, has him prepared to do the unthinkable.

“It’s just one of those fights I believe I’m the right match, the right guy to do it,” said Koch, in a recent interview with Tatame. “I wanna fight him. Most people don’t want to fight Aldo. You can tell it when they get in there and fight him. They don’t fight him, they’re trying to survive. I’m going in there to fight him.”

Koch plans to push the pace, adding, “you gotta go there and fight. You’re not gonna win the fight surviving.” Koch owns seven submission victories and three more knockout triumphs.
