UFC president Dana White conducted a Q&A with fans Tuesday evening via Facebook. White was asked his thoughts on women’s MMA, which has started to gain steam behind the likes of Ronda Rousey.
“I am warming up to women’s MMA,” White said (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for transcribing). “I don’t think I’ve been too shy about what I think about Ronda. She just looked impressive. Her numbers killed it on Showtime. Ronda Rousey is a star.”
Rousey drew in well over 600,000 viewers for her recent Strikeforce bantamweight title fight with Sarah Kaufman. The former Olympian has been featured in ESPN The Magazine and appeared on several television shows, including Conan.
White has been outspoken concerning women competing in the past, but thanks to the star appeal of Rousey, Miesha Tate and even former fighter Gina Carano, it looks like the boss is becoming a fan.
Another person asked White if the plan was for the UFC to still bring in another division – which would likely be 115-pounders – or women, and White responded with, “Either.”
