Tito Ortiz Thinks Lorenzo Fertitta Changed MMA For The Better

When Lorenzo Fertitta purchased the UFC, Tito Ortiz (16-11-1) believes he helped the sport, with the addition of new rules and getting rid of the one night tournaments.

Ortiz said in the early years, a fighter often didn’t know who they were competing against until they arrived to the venue and injuries often caused a fighter to drop out of the tournament.

“When I saw Lorenzo come in he saved the sport,” said Ortiz. “When he came in, the rules that were added evolved the sport. It’s not a barbaric sport anymore. It’s one people are accepting. It took almost 15 years.”

In January 2001, Fertitta purchased the UFC which had been struggling due the controversy over how the sport operated.
