Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Rousey, a former Olympian, will defend her title for the first time Saturday night against Sarah Kaufman in the main event of Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman.
The five-round affair will be the main event for the show, which takes place on Showtime from San Diego. Rousey is as focused as ever, despite having to supplement her training time with various other activities in the past few months.
“Every single time I come to fight, I pretend as if it is my little sister’s life depending on it,” Rousey said. “And in that kind of situation, nobody can ever beat me. I’m here to fight. I’m not here to do a little dance for you guys.”
Since claiming the title from Miesha Tate, Rousey has appeared on numerous shows and was featured in ESPN’s The Body Issue. Still, she’s maintained her strict workout program in preparation for Kaufman, a former champion.
“I see Sarah as an opponent and I’ve trained harder for this fight than any other fight before,” Rousey said. “I respect her so much and I’m not taking any chances.”
FightLine will have complete coverage of the event beginning Saturday night with the prelims.
