Dan Henderson was a guest on UFC Tonight Tuesday evening, and the No. 1 contender in the UFC’s light heavyweight division made some interesting comments. Henderson is currently set to face Jon Jones for the title at UFC 151: Jones vs. Henderson.
While Jones has youth and an impressive win streak on his side, Henderson believes his age will help him figure out “Bones.”
“One of the biggest assets I have is my experience, my timing, my striking, my takedowns and the ability to mix it up,” Henderson said. “I feel right at home when I’m wrestling. He’s taller and longer and gives problems in the clinch, but it’ll give me the opportunity to put him on his back.”
Henderson earned his shot at the belt by defeating Mauricio “Shogun” Rua late in 2011. He re-entered the UFC off a victory over heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko.
Jones made recent comments that Henderson is a “one-trick pony” with his devastating right hand, and added that he wants to be the first fighter to stop Henderson. “Hendo” laughed off the notion.
“It must be a pretty good trick,” Henderson said. “It’s kept me in the sport this long and people keep wanting to see it. TKO me? I’d love for him to try. That means he’s coming after me and I won’t have to chase him.”
