The No. 1 contender for the UFC Lightweight Championship Nate Diaz (16-7) thought Frankie Edgar (14-3-1) won his rematch against Benson Henderson (17-2) at UFC 150, but it doesn’t matter to him.
“I think that Frankie won personally,” said Diaz. “I think Frankie did a little more than he did.”
While Diaz is happy that he is taking on Henderson for the championship, it didn’t mean that he wanted Edgar to lose.
“People ask me who I’d rather fight and I said Ben Henderson, but I’m not saying I wanted Frankie to lose,” said Diaz. “It kind of worked out for me because now I’m fighting Ben and not Frankie.”
After back-to-back losses in the welterweight division, Diaz returned as a lightweight and has won three in a row. Henderson has won all of his five fights for the UFC.
“It’s time to fight for a title and do what I can to win that belt because I’m trying to do it for my team,” said Diaz. “F*ck the belt, I’m trying to be the No. 1 guy in the world and that’s him right now.”
The date for the fight is currently unknown.
