When Melvin Guillard walked out to weigh-in Friday evening, something didn’t seem right. Guillard, who will face Donald Cerrone in the co-main event of UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar later tonight, weighed in over the lightweight limit.
During an interview with Ariel Helwani late Friday night, Guillard detailed his inability to reach the 155-pound weigh-in for the fight. The bout will still go on, as the former Jackson MMA training partners are set to collide.
“(Guillard) said at around noon (Friday) his body stopped sweating once he reached 159 pounds, Helwani posted on Twitter. “He immediately called Cerrone to tell him he would not be making weight, and he said Cerrone was cool with it. He then called the UFC. He was told that since he took his fight on short notice he will still be eligible to win a bonus (Saturday) night.”
Guillard was forced to give 10-percent of his fight purse to Cerrone and another 10-percent to the Colorado Athletic Commission. He ended up weighing in at 157.5 pounds, with the limit being 156 for the bout.
