UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and Donald Cerrone are each very familiar with the altitude issues that fighting in Denver causes. Thus, many feel like Henderson and Cerrone will have advantages in their fights Saturday night at UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar II.
Henderson, who will defend his title for the first time against Frankie Edgar, has been working out at high altitude for almost a month now. He, like Cerrone, is originally from Colorado Springs.
“I know what this air can do to your lungs,” Henderson said. “I’ve been here for three weeks already. You can feel it when you run, or spar.”
Cerrone’s opponent will be Melvin Guillard in a key 155-pound contest. Cerrone said, “I grew up in Colorado Springs and my family and friends are all from Denver and I got here a month ago. It takes that long to be able to push yourself at this altitude.”
FightLine will have complete coverage of Saturday’s card, including up-to-the-minute play-by-play.
