Showtime sports general manager Stephen Espinoza is banking on the likes of Ronda Rousey, Sarah Kaufman, Miesha Tate and others to help push women’s MMA into the forefront. During a recent media conference call, Espinoza discussed the importance of female fighters.
“Showtime has always supported the female division, and will continue to do so as long as we are getting great events like this,” Espinoza said. “We are very excited to be bringing out viewers another tremendous women’s MMA event.”
Espinoza was talking about next Saturday’s Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman event. The card, which will feature Rousey defending her Strikeforce women’s bantamweight title against Kaufman, will air live on Showtime from San Diego.
“Showtime has been a big supporter of women’s MMA,” Espinoza said. “Without exception, they always give us great fights and that’s what we’re after here; exciting fights. I know for a fact that these two young women (Rousey, Kaufman) will give us that.”
Tate will also be featured on the prelims against Julie Kedzie, along with Hiroko Yamanaka taking on Germaine de Randamie.
