Alistair Overeem Continues To Fuel Fire With Junior Dos Santos

Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem has accused UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos of ducking him in the past few days. Overeem continued to push that topic during a recent interview on UFC Tonight.

“I approached him at the UFC Fighter Summit in (Las) Vegas and said, ‘Let’s do it. Let’s prove something to the world and lets fight,'” Overeem said. “Then he suddenly acted like he didn’t understand English and how he wants to fight Cain (Velasquez) first. The fact of the matter is I’m the No. 1 heavyweight in the world and if he wants to be the No. 1 heavyweight, he has to come through me.”

Overeem and dos Santos were scheduled to fight earlier this year, but a failed pre-fight drug test took Overeem out of the fight. Currently, “The Reem” is suspended from applying for his fight license until December, but that is also the target date for the return of dos Santos.

“Junior, give me and the fans and the UFC what they want,” Overeem said. “You’ve already fought Cain. That would just be another win. But a win over me would give you the No. 1 spot. Without a win over me, they’ll always question your championship. So bring it to the table, my friend.”

Velasquez, a former UFC heavyweight champion, was called the top contender after defeating Antonio Silva. However, recently it appears that dos Santos wants to face Overeem first due to the ongoing bad blood.
