Lyoto Machida Doesn’t Plan On Staying Quiet While Waiting For Title Shot

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida is taking a different approach than previous fighters have done. After defeating Ryan Bader and being named the No. 1 contender, Machida wants to stay active – even if that means taking another fight that isn’t for the belt.

“It doesn’t matter what is my next fight,” said Machida, while appearing on Radio recently. “I would like to fight for the title, but even another fight I would fight.”

Machida (18-3) is now 10-3 inside the Octagon. His lone losses have come to current UFC 205-pound champion Jon Jones and former champs Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

“I just want to be a champion again,” Machida said. “It doesn’t matter who my opponent is.”

Jones is set to defend his title in September at UFC 151: Jones vs. Henderson.
